How My Commission Process Works

Step 1: Decide What Size You Want

Thank you for your interest in commissioning me for your project. Start by visiting my price list page and decide on a size.

Step 2: Prepare Your Reference Photos

Reference photos will be reviewed before booking is complete. The ideal images are clear, taken at the animal’s level, close up and in natural light. Send your favorite images that accurately show the correct color and lots of detail. Try to get the best photos possible and send high resolution images. In order to preserve the image quality, please email your images to me directly from your camera. (I reserve the right to turn down a commission because I am unable to use the reference photos provided).

If you are not the photographer of the photos, written permission from the photographer will be required to use them as reference for the artwork. If you have purchased the images from a professional photographer, written permission is still required from the photographer in order to use them.

It is very helpful if you can provide me with a description of your pet’s personality, so I get to know them a little better.

Step 4: Portrait Deposit

You will be contacted when I am ready to start your portrait and a deposit will be required at that time. I accept credit card through PayPal, cash or personal check. An art agreement will be sent for you to review and sign. Please note: You are purchasing the original artwork only. As the artist, I retain the copyright and reproduction rights on all artwork created.

Step 5: Layout and Updates

You will receive one layout for approval before the original artwork is started. Once the original art is started, I will provide updates on social media (or at least one work-in-progress photo by email). If the artwork is a surprise, it will not be shared on social media until after it has been gifted. You will receive a photo of the final artwork for your approval.

Step 6: Completion & Approval

Once the artwork is complete and approved you will received an estimate of shipping costs. I will then scan the artwork and prepare it for shipping. The balance (plus shipping) is due before the artwork is sent out.

Step 7: Shipping

I usually package the artwork myself and try to use recycled materials. I take great care in packing the artwork so it arrives safe and sound.

My preferred shipping method within the USA is UPS with insurance. I prefer to ship early in the week and with the fastest delivery possible. (For International shipping please contact me for availability.)

Step 8: Enjoy Your Artwork

Your artwork will be delivered in a temporary case with instructions on care and framing. It is best to have your artwork framed by a professional as soon as possible after you receive it.

If at any time you wish to order fine art giclee prints of your original portrait to give as gifts or for family members, please contact me for more details.

That’s all! I hope you find this helpful. You will get regular updates through the whole process. If you have any questions feel free to send me a message. I will get back to you as soon as possible.
