A Little About Me

I graduated from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY with honors and have a BFA in Illustration. Realistic portraits of purebred dogs are my specialty, but I enjoy drawing many different things such as mixed breeds, horses, cats, birds, wildlife, houses and even an occasional human. Currently my focus is on colored pencil and pastel, but I have worked with most traditional mediums (including oils, acrylic & watercolor) and still enjoy using them from time to time.

My interest in animal art developed naturally from my early involvement with dogs. My older sister and I brought the world of purebred dogs to the family with the purchase of a German Shepherd dog and later a Dachshund, the breed that continues to dominate my affection to this day. I am proud of many accomplishments in the show ring with our owner-handled Dachshunds, having bred Best In Show and Specialty Best of Breed winners and tops the list with three Best of Variety wins at the Westminster Kennel Club.

Having worked in a variety of creative fields in the past, my experience includes freelance illustration, editor, mechanical artist and package design, but my true calling has always been animal art. Combining my love for all living creatures and my love for art was just a natural thing to do. I have completed commissions for the Dachshund Club of America, Dog Fancy Magazine, The AKC Gazette and many private collectors here and abroad. My work can be seen in DCA's Illustrated Standard of the Dachshund, books on the breed and on the prized DCA Specialty show medallions.

My style is realistic and I strive to go beyond strokes on the canvas. I enjoy capturing a subject’s true essence and bringing my artwork to life. I have been creating animal art since my school days and have many satisfied customers. Some of them are repeat customers having ordered one or more portraits through the years. Understanding the structural and individual differences between each animal continues to make creating realistic portraits a rewarding experience.
