A Little More About Me
Based in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, I graduated with honors from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York, earning a BFA in Illustration. Realistic dog portraits are my specialty, but I also enjoy drawing a variety of animals and other subjects. My current focus is colored pencil and pastel, although I have experience working in many traditional mediums.
My passion for animal art developed naturally from my early involvement with dogs. My older sister and I introduced purebred dogs to our family with a German Shepherd and later a Dachshund, the breed that continues to hold a special place in my heart. Years of showing owner-handled Dachshunds have given me a deep appreciation for breed type, structure, and expression. Our accomplishments in the show ring include breeding Best in Show and Specialty Best of Breed winners, as well as earning three Best of Variety wins at the Westminster Kennel Club.
While I have worked in several creative fields, including freelance illustration and design, my true passion has always been animal art. I have created artwork for the Dachshund Club of America, Dog Fancy Magazine, the AKC Gazette, private collectors, and breed publications, including the DCA’s Illustrated Standard of the Dachshund.
I strive to create realistic portraits that go beyond a simple likeness, capturing the personality, character, and spirit of each subject. Understanding the structure and individual qualities of each animal is what continues to make this work so rewarding. Sharing my knowledge with other artists has also become an important part of my creative journey. I have created two colored pencil tutorials available through Ann Kullberg’s website and enjoy teaching others the techniques behind creating realistic animal art.
